Chinese Leader Xi Jinping Lays out Plan to Control the Global Internet

Posted at The Epoch Times: Chinese leader Xi Jinping personally directed the communist regime to focus its efforts to control the global internet, displacing the influential role of the United States, according to internal government documents recently obtained by The Epoch Times. In a January 2017 speech, Xi said the “power to control the internet” had become the “new focal point of [China’s] national strategic contest,” and singled out the United States as a “rival force” standing in the way of the regime’s ambitions.

…If the Chinese regime were to gain control over more root servers, they could then redirect traffic to wherever they want, Gary Miliefsky, cybersecurity expert and publisher of Cyber Defense Magazine, told The Epoch Times. For example, if a user wants to go to a news article about a topic deemed sensitive by Beijing, then the regime’s DNS server could route the user to a fake page saying the article is no longer online.

Editor’s Comments: We have been worried about this for some time. Between the crackdown on free speech in our own country, and the massively growing threat of the CCP, it appears that measures are being taken to limit or prohibit any discourse that conflicts with the “official narrative”. This is why it is so important to speak actively with your representatives, share this information with as many people as you can, while you can, and to support the growth of free-speech platforms like gab.com, brighteon.social, and others. Additionally, learning to run a TOR server is going to be an important backup plan in the event that ICANN is compromised and domain names are seized. You can learn how to do that here (link requires the TOR Browser). Also watch for our own backup TOR server to be up and running in the next couple of weeks. Do not give in, and do not allow any more of our freedoms to be stolen from us. It’s easier to protect what we have than to try to take it back after the fact.
