“All the elements for history’s next great conflict are now in place.”

Russian troops are massing on the Ukraine border, Chinese vessels are swarming Whitsun Reef of the Philippines in the South China Sea, and China’s air force is flying almost daily through Taiwan’s air-defense identification zone. Chinese troops for almost a year have been dug in deep in Indian-controlled Ladakh in the Himalayas. Two large aggressors are threatening to break apart neighbors and absorb them.

The Global Times, an unofficial Communist Party tabloid used by Beijing to signal new policies, on April 12 posted a video of Hu Xijin, its editor-in-chief, warning that Beijing would overfly Taiwan—in other words, fly into Taiwan’s sovereign airspace—to “declare sovereignty.”

The Scales of Justice

Editorial comment: Whether or not any person accused can ever receive due process, a true and accurate finding of facts, and a verdict based in the law, is in question. Doubts are understandably created in environments where there is any attempt to intimidate or otherwise influence one or more parties to a case. This is true whether those efforts are aimed at the prosecution, the defense, the judge, the jury, the victim, or the accused. It is also true whether those efforts are aimed at parties to a case directly, or indirectly by way of harm threatened to a person’s family, friends, workplace, place of worship, or surrounding community. Mob action – even the threat of mob action – should not be tolerated. Serious and sobering questions must be raised. We must consider justice within the context of the Constitution for the sake our Republic and every citizen within it. The fact that politicians involve themselves in active cases, despite their leadership responsibilities, is terribly troubling. All of this is before us as a nation, even as we also understand that beneath the great weight of it, are human tragedies involving two men whose life paths intersected on one fateful day, Derek Chauvin and George Floyd.

8 Suggestions for Learning Morse Code – The Universal Language of Telegraphy

morse code

By Annie St. Francis – Reprinted with permission from The Repository Project
Morse code is a way to communicate using dots and dashes to represent letters and numbers. It’s a universal language, and was developed by Samuel Morse, and used as an effective way to communicate via telegraph. First used in the mid-1840s, Morse telegraphy transmitted communications by making indentations on a paper tape in response to electrical signals. Clock style mechanics moved the paper tape along as the message was being received. This is a fascinating part of communications history. Still used today by amateur radio operators, Morse code is an especially useful tool for communicating during times of emergency and poor radio conditions including sunspots and CMEs. Many hobbyists understand the value of preserving this skill, and sharing it with others just discovering an interest in radio!

Ready to learn a new language? Here are a few tips to help you get started!

1) Learn the basic signals, and study the Morse code alphabet. There are many who believe that the study should be focused significantly on the training of the ear. This is understandable since Morse code communicates with the use of sound. There are also more visual learning strategies. Do read on!

2) Practice saying the “dits” and “dahs” out loud and in the correct ratio and rhythm. A “dah” should last about three times as long as a “dit” when spoken. As you practice the sounds, the length of each will come more and more naturally – and very much like the native language we use in our daily lives.

A Message from the Editor…

freedom of speech

Freedom of speech is fundamental to our Republic, and to the liberty of all people. It is a Constitutional right, our 1st Amendment, and must be protected. Attacks on freedom of speech are at the core of much of the news being reported, and this should not be lost on any thinking American. What is happening here, in our great nation, is certainly not lost on the world. It wasn’t long ago that people across the globe were celebrating what was sure to be the reelection of Donald J. Trump to a second term in office. Dancing. Cheering. Carrying signs and banners through the streets. How uplifting it was to see people from countries near and far celebrating true leadership with a commitment to the restoration of human liberty here – and everywhere.

So much has changed, and it is – and will remain – my personal belief that election fraud was widespread. The 2020 Presidential election was stolen. The fact that so much effort has been made to silence those who have spoken up up seems only to prove this point – that there is much the political thieves must hide. Every one involved in the theft of this election should be ashamed, but they appear to know no shame.

Many who object have had their Facebook and Twitter accounts suspended, sometimes permanently. There have been attempts to take down emerging social media alternatives including Gab, Parler, and Mike Lindell’s FrankSpeech.

Censorship is reaching into military service with questions being asked of naval officers whose political affiliations are Republican and Conservative. The very thought that military service should be tied to political affiliation in the United States of America is outrageous.

Election auditors have been threatened and menaced, and at least one reported receiving the offer of a bribe in exchange for his silence on the subject of election fraud. Some have lost their jobs.

Juries responsible for deciding court cases – involving the fates of the accused – are being asked to do so in the face of angry mobs and uncontrolled riots who clearly intend to influence those judgments. No case should ever be decided by a jury under any kind of threat, nor any punishment upon conviction meted out by a mob.

Our 45th President, Donald J. Trump, has been blocked at just about every turn – through his internet presence, in the proceedings of Congress, and in the courts. He was subjected to all manner of political manipulation in the course of his candidacy, during the time of his presidency, and even now that he is no longer in the office. Again, I say it. This was an election he rightfully and fairly won.

President Trump is not alone. The thoughts and ideas of those who do not conform to interests of the radical Communist left routinely suffer censorship, and the consequences of cancel culture.

Make your political voices heard, America. Be informed. Get involved at your local political precinct levels. Speak up. Do not cower, and in so doing, allow your views and voices to be silenced. We are standing on the right side of history, and we will prevail – honestly, truthfully, peacefully, and lawfully – we will prevail.

6 Tips and Tricks to Producing Your Own Gardener’s Gold – The Art and Science of Composting

By Annie St. Francis – Reprinted with permission from The Repository Project
Here are 6 Tips and Tricks to Producing Your Own Gardener’s Gold. You’ll discover that composting is both an art and a science, and there’s a lot to learn. The more you know, the better your odds for great results in the garden. We are wishing everyone success in their growing endeavors, and are always delighted by stories of home grown fresh produce – delicious, nutritious, and lots of it!

1) Choose a location for compost processing near a water source like a hose bib, and be sure your hose and nozzle will comfortably reach your compost pile. You’ll want enough space to turn your compost, moving it back and forth between a couple of stacks. This work is important. By turning the compost, you’re encouraging healthy microbial growth, and aerating it at the same time.

2) Include both “browns” (which convert to humus) and “greens” (which convert quickly to nitrogen) in roughly a 3:1 ratio. Great examples of “browns” include leaf litter, pine needles, and straw, while “greens” might include fruit and vegetable peelings, cores, and other scraps. Fresh grass clippings are great for compost, but do exercise caution where pesticides and herbicides are used. Avoid these. Do not poison the organisms that will work to create your compost, the plants that will grown in your compost, or yourself through contact – by touch or ingestion. Organic compost is your best option, every time!

Censorship is not freedom of speech. It is the opposite.
This is something that never was fixed when the Republicans held the Presidency, the House, and the Senate. Wonder why? Big Tech has been targeting and censoring conservatives for years. These actions, which many believe are criminal and corrupt, hurt conservatives and prevent their messages from getting out in the public square. This is certainly not free speech. This is the prevention of free speech. You would think there would be wording in the US Constitution that would make this unlawful?

Book Review: Back to Basics: A Complete Guide to Traditional Skills – Third Edition
Back to basics

By Annie St. Francis – Reprinted with permission from The Repository Project
Back to Basics: A Complete Guide to Traditional Skills
is a concise and yet detailed encyclopedia of information important to the basics of self-sufficient living. Learn to bake bread, build a stone house, develop a water supply, and spin yarn. Raise a barn. Braid your own rugs. Craft a dulcimer. In an age where so much of what we need comes to us ready for use and just in time, it is more important than ever before that we rediscover and practice the skills truly fundamental to life – those that help connect us to the hands-on experience of living each day, across the seasons, and through the years. It’s a knowledge base that is life sustaining, and may also one day be life saving. Perhaps we are being called from the complex world back to a much simpler one.

Each section of Back to Basics provides a well-organized introduction with background and context, important instructions, and illustrations. The editor has also selectively added glossaries, insets, references to additional reading, organization-based resources, and a detailed index.

The editor’s introductory sentence reflects so well the content of this book, and it’s importance: “Back to Basics is a book about the simple life.” This title comes highly recommended by The Repository Project. We encourage you to consider making it part of your home libraries.

A Thoughtful Quote to Share and an Additional Reading Recommendation

“At this point in history, our society tends to elevate and reward the specialist… This concentrated focus has brought some benefits… It may also be a modern malady. Specialization, when taken too far and allowed to define who and what we are, becomes limiting. It robs us of our wholeness and our self-sufficiency. It misses the big picture and confines us to a narrow zoom. And it leaves us at the mercy of experts.” – Keith StewartIt’s a Long Road to a Tomato: Tales of an Organic Farmer Who Quit the Big City for the (Not So) Simple Life

Posted at the J.R. Nyquist Blog: “Are Russia and China Igniting a Third World War?” By J.R. Nyquist

From J.R. Nyquist’s Article: ““It turns out that China is going to overtake the United States….” He explained that COVID-19 was “a test” that is “bad for Europe and America” but “beneficial for China and North Korea.” Then Li spoke of China being “ahead of schedule” in terms of overtaking the United States. “The U.S. will not survive,” he predicted.”

“The West is caught up in trivia. Always in search of new ways to misperceive dangerous developments that are unfolding before our eyes, we cannot discern what our enemy is after.”

Editorial opinion: The importance of J.R. Nyquist’s substantive essays cannot be overemphasized.

The United States is facing internal chaos strategically created by pro-Communist agitators. Military confrontation appears imminent given the provocative movements of China, Russia, and Iran. We continue to struggle with the consequences of a pandemic unleashed on the world, and strangely, we lack the courage to confront the truth of its origins, or the nature of the virus itself. Our nation suffered the breach of our governing Constitution in the form of wide spread 2020 election fraud. In the face of this, we have been unable to come together in support of truthful and transparent audits, reasonable fraud prevention, and the fundamental question of election integrity.

We are living in a dangerous world, and an especially dangerous time in history. We make conditions even more dangerous by virtue of the choices in policy and practice being made now – boldly, without shame or hesitation, and right before our very eyes. We turn from harsh realities, willfully choosing blindness. We declaw our defensive capabilities all why we decry savage assaults and the victimization of the vulnerable. We pursue the very political persecution we would have found abhorrent and intolerable just a short time ago. If we do not reconcile the conflicts created that divide us as an American culture, separate “what we do” from “what we believe”, and act to restore the values of our great nation and her people, we will surely face a devastating day of reckoning – and that day may come sooner than we imagine.

Raising Chickens – Happy Hens for the Backyard or Barnyard

Raising Chickens
Chickens at the local watering hole

Raising chickens for the backyard or barnyard is a fun and important part of prepared living. If you’re thinking seriously about becoming a prepper, achieving as much food supply self-sufficiency as possible is surely high on the list of your priorities. Access to nutritious food is fundamental to building a solid foundation for life, and the ability to produce it supports tremendous peace of mind. Delicious, nutritious farm-fresh eggs are one important way to accomplish all of these goals.

Living a prepared lifestyle for many years now, we have learned a lot about raising chickens, the joys (and challenges) of free-ranging birds, and budget benefits of having your own fresh eggs every morning. We would like to share some of this knowledge with you. The circumstances of each reader may vary, and adjustments to ideas and options may be important too for anyone who might like to raise and keep their own chickens. As with almost everything about prepared life, there is no “one size” that fits all! Prepared life is as unique among preppers as people are, one to the next!

Let’s get started.

Prepper Lists

Prepper Lists – A New Way to Think About Preparedness Planning
Prepper Lists
A great addition to your collection – buy it here!

Prepper lists are everywhere! They keep us organized, provide important reminders, make our planning efforts more efficient, and are easy to write, review, and update along the way. Within the preparedness culture and community, lists are wonderfully and terribly familiar. We are grateful for them even as we wonder whether the lists on which we rely are truly complete.

In addition to comparing, contrasting, merging and purging lists, let’s consider a new way to think bout preparedness planning. As you contemplate your supplies, and how best to shore these up, imagine a specific activity or supply item.

Sometimes it’s best to start with a simple example, and one that leads to a broader understanding that can be applied to the bigger preparedness picture.

Let’s start with shoes. Shoes? Sure! Shoes. Spare pairs of shoes and boots are key preparedness supply items, and would be especially important if there were an interruption to supply lines for any reason. We wear these everyday, and we need them.

Beyond the shoes or boots themselves, we ought to consider accessory items that are important to functional use, comfort, care and keeping, and longevity. Think shoe laces, shoe inserts, and shoe repair kits.

Imagine getting ready for the day… Before slipping on your shoes, you’ll be sliding your feet into socks! Your plans for shoes and boots among your resources should include a solid stash of these. Include soft socks, wool socks, ankle socks, full length socks, and socks that support circulation.

While you’re contemplating your feet, be sure you have good ankle supports, nail trimmers and other pedicure care kit tools and supplies, corn pads, ointment and bandages for blisters.

Repeat this process through the activities of a usual day, week, month, season, and year. Use the same approach to imagining emergency scenarios, or as you step-through dry-run training exercises.

Think comprehensively with an eye both to overview and to detail. It’s a strategy that extrapolates well to a whole host of preparedness concerns, and should be considered in every aspect of your planning. Your goal should be to fill in the gaps, discovering (and remedying) these now while you have the opportunity to review, revise and refine your planning – and not in a time of true emergency.

Remain steady. Stay well. Be safe, everyone!

Undaunted by the challenges that come with Project Veritas’ focus of exposing corruption, waste, fraud, self-dealing, media manipulation, and propaganda, O’Keefe has delivered insightful commentary, in-depth interviews, revealing audio recordings, and telling video footage. He has faced harsh criticism, and litigation. Despite this, James O’Keefe remains determined to do what he can to restore a more “ethical and transparent society”. O’Keefe does enjoy great vindication along the way with the Project Veritas’ Wall of Shame. On this wall hang the framed retractions journalists have had to print in correction to earlier work. More recently, O’Keefe has taken the righting of wrongs to a new level, and has announced plans to file suit against CNN for defamation. In a world filled with too many lies, and a dearth of truth, the revealing work of James O’Keefe is more important than ever. James O’Keefe is among the heroes of our time.

“Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath though of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.” – Jonathan Swift

Spring Garden Starts – 8 Tips to Help You Succeed as a Beginning Gardener

By Annie St. Francis

It’s spring and time to sprout those spring garden starts! The risk of frost will soon pass for most of America, and you’ll want to make the most of this year’s growing season. Experienced gardeners are already busy tending to this year’s gardens. If you’re new to home gardening, we have tips to share that will help you get started early.

Here are 8 tips to help you succeed as a beginning gardener!

1) Start your plants indoors. Choose an area that gets a lot of natural light, especially in the morning, and one that stays warm too. If you’re placing your starter trays near a window, consider night time low temperatures, and any drafts that might impair seed germination or endanger fledgling plants. Seed germination is most successful in warm soil.

2) Choose varieties likely to do well in your growing zone, and the conditions you can provide your plants whether you’ll be gardening in the open air, in raised beds, using vertical systems, or inside a greenhouse.

3) If you’re keeping spring garden starts in a windowless room, like a bathroom or basement area, there are now several options for comparatively affordable LED grow lights. LED technology uses much less electricity than light bulbs of the past, and LED lights are much less fragile than the fluorescent tubes of old.

When shopping for LED grow lights, be sure to check the system you’re considering for size, recommendations for placement in relation to your plants, and to ensure even distribution of lighting. In shopping for lights, you’ll discover that there are lots of options!

4) Watch the moisture level of your growing medium. Germinating seeds and plant starts shouldn’t be found swimming in water-saturated soil, nor should these be allowed to dry out. This is a critical time in the development of your garden plants. Watch over them closely.

5) Use a quality seed starting mix. A proper mix has good drainage properties, and some nutrient support. For experienced growers, or adventurous beginners, you can also make your own starter mix. A recipe you might consider is LINKED HERE.

6) Choose the size of your starter pots thoughtfully. As an example, onions can very easily be started in growing trays with 1” planting cells. The beauty of this is that most 10” x 20” trays hold 72 cells. Three or four of these create tremendous produce potential. Squash, on the other hand, are best started in larger 3” or 4” pots. The larger pots will support your plant starts for a longer period of time, and will require fewer moves. Whenever possible, and especially among beginning gardeners, make it your goal to transplant just once from the starting pot to the open air garden outdoors.

7) Make plans to transplant your starts from pots or planters to their garden homes as soon as possible after the last chance of frost. But! Be careful and be ready for a surprise cold snap. Watch the weather. If it looks like temperatures near freezing are on the way, take steps to protect your plants. How much protection? This will depend on the conditions you’re expecting, and the cold hardiness of your varieties.

One strategy used in our family garden is to cover our plants with empty pots or buckets (large enough to protect all the leaves), and then to place a tarp over those buckets. Weights around tarp will help hold it in place, and prevent wind from lifting and moving it. Remember that wind often accompanies cold fronts!

8) When it’s time to deliver your starts to their outdoor garden homes, be sure you’re placing each plant in good quality soil which should be nutritious, and moist but balanced for proper drainage. Many plants will tolerate a range of conditions, but some are especially fussy. Invest yourself in learning about your plant’s preferences for nutrient balance, soil pH, and drainage. In doing so, you’ll enjoy the celebration of lots of success, and be much more prepared to problem-solve for any challenges you might face along the way!

Gardening is a fun and healthy activity enjoyed by people of all ages, in all parts of the country, and across all growing zones. If you would like to learn more, and build your library in the process, we have some fabulous gardening, greenhouse and hydroponics books available. Whether you’re beginning with a few plants in the window sill, or preparing for a larger outdoor garden endeavor, we at The Repository Project are wishing you a wonderful experience and every success!
